Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a permanent solution to restore missing teeth. They are made of Biocompatible medical-grade titanium. To place them inside the bone, a small incision will be made over the gums, and the implant will be placed inside the bone by using special drills. Then the implant is going to be left inside the bone for healing. The process of implant healing is called osseointegration. At this time body is going to be making new bone around the implant that gets fused to the implant surface and creates a very strong bond. This process usually takes about 4-6 months.

The healing time depends on the bond’s quality, the patient’s age, and many more factors. After the healing period, the implant becomes part of the bone and can act like a healthy and strong root to carry a new implant crown. The implant combined with the crown attached to it will look, function, and feel like a natural tooth. Whether patients are missing a single tooth, or require a full smile makeover, Smile Atelier Beverly Hills offers a wide variety of treatment options to ensure that every patient needing dental implants gets a beautiful, individualized smile.

What Are My Options?

There are various options to restore missing teeth with dental implants. We can replace one tooth, a few teeth, or even your entire upper or lower set of teeth with dental implants. Here is how it works:

Single Implants– For Patients missing one or few teeth in their mouth, dental implants can be placed to restore individual teeth that can feel and function just like your natural teeth.

Bridges- When, a patient, is missing multiple teeth, one option besides restoring each tooth with a single implant would be to place fewer implants, connect the implant crowns with a bridge, and use the two or more anchors to replace multiple teeth firmly into place.

All-on-Four Dental Implants–patients who have either no teeth or have teeth that are not healthy and restorable due to extensive decay or severe gum disease don’t have to be using a traditional denture these days. A very good solution would be removing all the infected teeth and replacing them with 4-6 implants. These implants will be the foundation for a fixed prosthesis that goes on top of the implants and will restore cosmetics, function, and, more importantly, confidence back to our patients. In most cases, our patients leave the office with a fixed prosthesis right after the day of the surgery and implant placement.

Dental implant restoration requires a wide knowledge of cosmetic dentistry and biomechanics to select the best material and get predictable results that ensure the treatment’s long-term success and deliver a natural-looking outcome.

Implant Crowns Fall Into Two Categories:

Cement Retained Implant Crown:

when a titanium part (abutment) is screwed into the implant Which is going to be sticking out of the gums and will be connecting the dental implant to the crown. The crown, which looks exactly like a tooth is going to be kept in place using a special cement.

Screw Retained Implant Crown:

when the crown directly gets screwed to the implant body using special titanium screw. Deciding on which one is the best solution is a balance between function and esthetics it is critical to have been designed for each case the type of restoration.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Dental Implants?

Everyone is a good candidate for implant placement. There is not really any age limitation for implant process.Dental implant failures do happen in very rare cases. The risk factures that increase failure rate are:

  • Smoking
  • Severe and active gum disease on the rest of the areas of the mouth
  • Systemic diseases that lower healing ability
  • Diabetes

Same Day Dental Implants

Traditional dental implants could take up to six months or more to bond with your jawbone and heal before any prosthesis could be placed on them. With usage of new material came out a new method in implant dentistry called “same-day dental implants” or “immediate loading”. This highly specialized technique allows ours patients to have a temporary crown on the implant while the implant is getting fully healed and getting ready for the final prosthesis Our patients will have their damaged teeth removed and implants placed, along with complete dental crowns or restorations, in the same day. In this way out patients will leave our office with a cosmetically pleasing teeth right after their surgery. It gives our patients more comfort, more confidence specially when it comes to teeth that are in their smile line. We ensure to consider all the factors and deliver the most natural looking and functional individually designed restorations for all of our implant restorations. Patients typically leave a dental implant procedure with temporary teeth in place. This is markedly different from the past, when patients were asked to go without any replacement teeth until the implant had bonded with bone.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

While it's difficult to say precisely how long dental implants ususally last, with regular brushin, maintenance and regular dentist visits, they could last for a lifetime! They are considered to be the third set of teeth permanent teeth.

How Are Dental Implants Done?

Dental implant procedures can be performed under local anesthesia with regular dental injections or with IV Sedation. Although implant placement is not a painful procedure, sedation options is always a more convenient due to the ultimate comfort during the procedure.

A procedure place one dental implant will usually take approximately one hour. Naturally, more implants will take longer.

Are Any Additional Procedures Needed While Placing An Implant?

Since the titanium implant needs to be imbedded all the way into the bone, The most important factor in success of the implant is having sufficient bone. It is absolutely necessary to obtain a bone CT scan before proceeding with implant surgery in order to define the quality and the quantity of the bone in the surgery site. By using the digital planning tool the size (length and width) and the exact location of the implant is going to be defined. Then a surgical guide is going to be fabricated in order to eliminate all mistakes in process of implant surgery.

In cases that there is not enough bone available, extra bone grafting procedures need to be performed in order to rebuild the lost mount of bone.

The anatomy of Upper back area of the mouth is close to the upper jaw sinuses. In many cases in order to place in implant in the upper back area, the sinus is in the way of our implant placement. In these areas implant placement is done with an additional procedure which is call SINUS LIFT and it is consisted of pushing the floor of the sinus higher. Most of the times it will be done at the surgery appointment and is very easy and painless.

What Needs To Be Done If An Implant Is Failed?

In these cases of failing implants, the implant need to be removed from the bone, bone need to be re-grafted and restored and new implants will be placed after the healing.
